Hengaw: Tuesday, January 21, 2025
Mohammadreza Faghihi, a Turkish attorney-at-law, has been arrested to serve his prison sentence and transferred to Tehran's Evin Prison.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, attorney Mohammadreza Faghihi was arrested to serve a five-year prison sentence and transferred to Evin Prison. This individual was sentenced in mid-October of this year by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court to five years of imprisonment on charges of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.”
Additionally, Mohammadreza Faghihi has been sentenced to supplementary punishments, including a two-year travel ban, a two-year prohibition from practicing law, and a ban on membership in political parties and groups.
The trial session addressing the charges against this attorney was held on September 11, 2024. He had been summoned to Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court in October 2023 to defend himself against charges of “assembly and collusion” and “disrupting public order.”
It is worth noting that Mohammadreza Faghihi was arrested on October 12, 2022, alongside two other attorneys, during a protest held by attorneys in objection to “violations of protestors’ rights and Article 27 of the Constitution.” The protest took place in front of the Central Bar Association in Tehran’s Argentine Square. He was released nearly two weeks later, on October 25, 2022, after posting bail.
