In early January 2025, the death sentences of two prisoners—Abdulhamid Kohkan, an Afghan national, and Golmohammad Gorgij, a Baloch man—were carried out in Gorgan Central Prison, located in Golestan Province. Both prisoners had been sentenced to death in separate cases on drug-related charges.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Golmohammad Gorgij (34) and Abdulhamid Kohkan (26) were executed in Gorgan Central Prison.
Sources revealed that Abdulhamid Kohkan had been arrested four years ago on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death. Similarly, Golmohammad Gorgij, who had been in custody for five years on similar charges, was initially sentenced to 20 years in prison, but his sentence was later mysteriously changed to the death penalty.
As of the time of this report, the executions of these two prisoners have not been announced by state media, including outlets close to the judiciary.
