The death sentences of two prisoners—Mehnaz Kakayi, a 24-year-old woman, and Ali Soufian, a 40-year-old man from Shiraz—were carried out at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. Kakayi had been convicted of premeditated murder, while Soufian was sentenced for drug-related offenses.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions took place at dawn on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Sources familiar with the case reported that Mehnaz Kakayi was arrested four years and seven months ago for the murder of her fiancé, following a verbal altercation. At the time, she was reportedly under pressure from her father to marry someone against her will. She was later sentenced to death by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s judiciary.
Ali Soufian, meanwhile, had been imprisoned for the past three years on charges related to narcotics offenses and was also sentenced to death.
As of the time of this report, neither execution has been announced by state media or judiciary-affiliated outlets.
