Newroz festivities in Kurdistan: 17-year-old student Ehsan Hamzehzadeh arrested in Bukan

Ehsan Hamzehzadeh, a 17-year-old Kurdish high school student from Bukan, has been arrested by Iranian security forces for participating in Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, forces from the Intelligence Department in Bukan arrested Ehsan Hamzehzadeh, originally from the village of Qalawi and currently residing in the Mirabad district of Bukan. He was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location.
A source close to Hamzehzadeh’s family told Hengaw, “Ehsan is an 11th-grade student at Meraj High School in Bukan and was arrested for taking part in Newroz ceremonies.”
The source further explained that the Intelligence Department lured Ehsan to the Bukan public library under false pretenses, and as he approached the area, several vehicles belonging to intelligence agents surrounded and arrested him.
As of the time of this report, there is no confirmed information regarding the whereabouts or legal status of this 17-year-old student.
