A woman named Saghar executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

The death sentence of a woman prisoner named Saghar, who had previously been sentenced to death along with a man named Mehrdad in a joint case on charges of murder, was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, May 1, 2025, a female prisoner named Saghar, from Kamalshahr in Karaj, was executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison. This is while the man involved in the same case escaped execution after the victim’s family granted consent and accepted blood money (diya).

According to the Rokna website, the prisoner had been arrested six years ago along with a man named Mehrdad on charges of murdering her husband, Farid, and was sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary. The sentence was also upheld by the Supreme Court.

It is worth noting that Saghar’s co-defendant was released from the death sentence after serving four years in prison, with the consent of the victim’s family and payment of diya.
