Hengaw - Monday, May 26, 2025
The execution of a female prisoner, Setareh Taherloo, previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges, has been carried out at Damghan Central Prison in Semnan Province. She is the sixteenth woman to be executed in the country since the beginning of this year.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out at dawn on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Sources familiar with the case stated that Taherloo had been arrested three years ago on charges related to drug trafficking, specifically the transportation of narcotics. She was later sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic.
Previously, Hengaw also reported the execution of another prisoner, Ali-Asghar Alemi, a resident of Damghan. He had been imprisoned for 13 years following a conviction for first-degree murder and was ultimately sentenced to death by the judiciary.
Neither of these executions has been announced by state media, particularly outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
Based on statistics recorded by Hengaw’s Statistics and Documentation Center, at least 16 women have been executed in detention facilities across the country in less than five months since the beginning of this year.
