Bukan: Kurdish man Diako Yazdanpanah summoned to serve prison sentence after torture and unfair trial

Hengaw – Friday, June 20, 2025
Diako Yazdanpanah, a 29-year-old Kurdish man from Bukan, has been officially summoned by Iran’s judiciary to begin serving a 32-month prison sentence, following a case marred by torture and due process violations.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Yazdanpanah received a summons to appear before the Enforcement Department of the Bukan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office to begin his sentence.
Yazdanpanah was previously convicted by Branch 101 of the Bukan Criminal Court (Second Division) on October 17, 2024, receiving 24 months for “insulting the Supreme Leader” and 8 months for “evading mandatory military service.”
He was originally arrested on Monday, June 24, 2024, after being summoned by the Bukan Security Police.
According to informed sources, Yazdanpanah was subjected to severe physical and psychological torture during the first week of detention—initially in connection with accusations of “links to Kurdish opposition parties.” He was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, where he endured further interrogations and physical torture over the accusations of draft evasion.
Following nearly a week of abuse in custody, Yazdanpanah was moved to Bukan Prison, where he remained until he was granted temporary release on bail pending trial.
