The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Christian convert Hesamoddin (Yahya) Mohammadi Junidi to eight years and one month in prison.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Junidi, 45, a resident of Varamin, was convicted by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ashkan Ramesh. He was given seven years and six months for “propagating against Islamic law through contact with foreign entities” and a further seven months for “propaganda against the government.”

Authorities cited his participation in Christian training courses abroad, attendance at online and house churches, and promotion of Christianity both online and in person as grounds for the charges.

Mohabbat News, a media outlet covering Christian affairs in Iran, reported that Junidi was arrested by security forces in November 2024 and held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, operated by the Ministry of Intelligence.

He was later released on bail of 1.5 billion tomans, pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
