Iran: Death of prisoner Soudabeh Asadi in Qarchak Varamin marks third case of medical neglect in September

Hengaw – Friday, September 26, 2025
Soudabeh Asadi, a prisoner held in Qarchak Varamin Prison, died after falling ill and being denied timely transfer to a medical facility. She is the third woman to die in this prison in September alone due to lack of adequate medical care.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Asadi died after being denied access to specialized healthcare outside the prison despite her deteriorating condition.
Prison officials and judicial authorities have so far remained silent on the circumstances of her death.
Sources familiar with the case reported that Asadi had been serving a sentence on financial charges.
In recent weeks, two other women — Somayeh Rashidi and Jamileh Azizi — also died in Qarchak Varamin Prison under similar circumstances, highlighting a pattern of systematic medical neglect.
