Kurdish prisoner Shahab Abbasi executed in Urmia Central Prison

The death sentence of Shahab (Shams al-Din) Abbasi, a Kurdish prisoner previously convicted on drug-related charges, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution took place at dawn on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Urmia Central Prison.

Abbasi, aged 52, a father of two, was a resident of Kai village in the Silvaneh district of Urmia.

Sources familiar with the case reported that Abbasi had been arrested about two years ago on charges related to drug offenses and later sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

His execution has not been announced by Iranian state media or judiciary-affiliated outlets.
