Iran upholds death sentence for ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ detainee Mehreb Abdollahzadeh

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the death sentence of 27-year-old Abdollahzadeh has recently been fully upheld by Branch 9 of Iran’s Supreme Court. On Thursday, December 18, the ruling was officially communicated to him, and he has since been instructed to submit a “request for pardon.”
Last summer, Abdollahzadeh was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Najafzadeh, on the charge of “baghi” (armed rebellion).
Hengaw previously reported that the case against Abdollahzadeh includes allegations linking him to the killing of a Basij member, on the basis of which he was prosecuted on charges of “baghi.”
Abdollahzadeh was abducted by state forces in autumn 2022 during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising and transferred to a security detention facility in Urmia. After months of interrogation and severe torture, he was moved to Urmia Central Prison.
