Hengaw’s detailed report on the sentencing of 13 detainees from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” Movement in Bukan: 12 death sentences and 219 years of imprisonment

The judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a total of 12 death sentences and 219 years and 8 months of prison sentences for 13 Kurdish detainees from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement in Bukan. The individuals, including Rezgar Babamiri, Pejman Soltani, Soran Ghasemi, Kaveh Salehi, Tayfor Babamiri, Javanmard Mam Khosravi, Ahmad Mamehzadeh, Salar Daghdar, Siamak Eini, Hemin Kermanch, Jalil Moloudi, Hossein Hosseinzadeh, and Sware Azizzadeh, were charged with offenses such as “Waging war against God” (moharebeh), “armed rebellion” (baghi), “collaboration with Israel and Mossad,” and membership in Kurdish opposition parties. Salahaddin Ahmadi was acquitted of some charges, though his case remains open for further review.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Tayfor Salimi Babamiri (47), Soran Ghasemi (28), Pejman Soltani (30), Kaveh Salehi (40), and Rezgar Babamiri (42) were each sentenced by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court to death for baghi and moharebeh, as well as an additional 15 years in prison for membership in Kurdish parties.

Ghasemi, Salehi, and Soltani have each received three death sentences (to be hanged three times). Beigzadeh Babamiri has been sentenced to death twice (to be hanged twice). Salimi Babamiri — who is currently out on bail set at five billion tomans — has received one death sentence. Pejman Soltani had previously been sentenced to death in a separate case by the Juvenile Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan province.

Hemin Kermanch, Jalil Moloudi, and Hossein Hosseinzadeh were each sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in prison for membership in armed Kurdish groups, including Shorshgerani Kurdistan Association, Shamaran, Komala, and PAK.

Ahmad Mamehzadeh and Salar Daghdar were each sentenced to a total of 22 years and 8 months: 12 years and 8 months for membership in the aforementioned Kurdish groups, 6 years for collaboration with Israel through Mossad operations, and 4 years for acting against national security through identifying individuals.

Javanmard Mam Khosravi received the heaviest prison sentence, totaling 35 years. This included 10 years for collaboration with Israel through Mossad, 15 years for group membership, 5 years for involvement in the smuggling of 120 Starlink satellite devices, and 5 years for conspiracy to commit crimes against national security through the identification and intimidation of individuals.

Siamak Eini was sentenced to a total of 18 years and 8 months, consisting of 12 years and 8 months for group membership and 6 years for collaboration with Israel.

Sware Azizzadeh received a total of 7 years and 8 months in prison, including 4 years for conspiracy to act against national security and 3 years and 8 months for importing and smuggling a firearm allegedly used in the assassination of Mohammad Ali Mohammadi.

Salahddin Ahmadi was acquitted of some charges; however, his case remains open pending review and possible modification of charges.

All of these individuals were arrested by Iranian security forces several months after the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests. During their detention, they were subjected to enforced disappearance, severe torture, and forced confessions extracted under duress.
