Iranian forces fatally shoot three during recent protests in Golestan Province

The identities of three people, including one Turkmen man, who were killed during recent protests in Golestan Province have been confirmed. Reza Asadi, Safa Farzanfar, and Kianoush Mirghasemi were fatally shot by Iranian government forces during demonstrations in the cities of Gorgan and Gonbad-e Kavus.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Kianoush Mirghasemi, 18, was shot in the heart, and Reza Asadi, 30, both residents of Gorgan, were killed after Iranian government forces opened fire on protesters in the city on the evening of Friday, January 9, 2026.

In a separate incident, Safa Farzanfar, 25, a resident of Hajiler Qaleh village in Gonbad-e Kavus County, was killed after being shot by Iranian government forces during protests on the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2026.
