Two University of Pars faculty members arrested in Tehran; Health concerns raised

Iranian government forces have arrested Behzad Sehati and his wife Laya Jabik, both faculty members at the University of Pars, during a raid on their home in Tehran. The couple was taken to an undisclosed location.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the arrests took place on Monday, January 26, 2026, when government forces raided the couple’s residence without presenting a warrant. The arrest was carried out in the presence of their seven-year-old child.

Behzad Sehati is an art researcher and holds a PhD from the University of Tehran. His wife, Laya Jabik, holds a master’s degree in art and a bachelor’s degree in architecture. Both are members of the academic staff at the University of Pars.

Serious concerns have been raised regarding Laya Jabik’s health, as she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and requires continuous access to medication and specialized medical care. Any disruption in her treatment during detention could pose a serious risk to her health and life.

No official information has been released regarding the charges against the couple, the reason for their arrest, or their place of detention.
