Erfan Faraji dies a week after 18th birthday; body collected from Kahrizak

Erfan Faraji, an 18-year-old resident of Rey, was killed during protests after being shot with live ammunition by Iranian government forces.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the killing occurred on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Faraji, who had turned 18 only a week earlier, was shot by Iranian forces during protests in Rey and later died from his injuries.

A source close to Faraji’s family told Hengaw that he was killed by gunfire from a military weapon. The source said his body was identified among those transferred by truck to Kahrizak on Saturday.

The source added that Faraji’s body was collected by his family with delay on Saturday, January 10, 2026, and was buried without any public announcement.
