The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Omid Bayat Sarmadi, a detainee arrested during protests earlier this year, to 25 years in prison.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Bayat Sarmadi, a DJ and travel tour organizer from Tehran, was sentenced by the Tehran Revolutionary Court to 25 years imprisonment.
Kaveh Rad, the lawyer representing the political prisoner, confirmed the ruling and stated that the verdict is not final and can still be challenged before the Supreme Court. He added that an appeal will be submitted within the legally designated timeframe.
Iranian security forces arrested Omid Bayat Sarmadi on January 13, 2026, during the protests and transferred him to Greater Tehran Penitentiary.
Sources indicate that he was subjected to pressure and torture during detention in an attempt to force him into making confessions against himself.
No clear information has so far been released regarding the charges filed against him.
