Teacher Arya Nourani sentenced to 14 months in prison over January protests

The Iranian Judiciary has sentenced Arya Nourani, a Kurdish teacher detained during the January 2026 protests in Maneh and Samalqan County, North Khorasan province, to 14 months in prison.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nourani was recently sentenced to 14 months' imprisonment by judicial authorities in North Khorasan province. The official verdict does not specify the charges against him or provide details about the legal basis for the sentence.

Iranian security forces arrested Nourani during the protests in North Khorasan. After spending two weeks in detention and under interrogation at a security detention facility, he was released on heavy bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Nourani serves as a primary school teacher in Maneh and Samalqan County, North Khorasan province.
