Hengaw – Monday, June 15, 2026

The death sentence of Aram Zarei, a Kurdish prisoner from Sanandaj (Sine) who had been convicted on charges of “premeditated murder” in connection with the killing of his wife, was carried out at Sanandaj Central Prison.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aram Zarei was executed in the early hours of Monday, June 15, 2026, at Sanandaj Central Prison in the presence of the victim’s family.

Zarei had been arrested approximately two years ago on charges of “premeditated murder” following the killing of his wife, Aida Heydarian, and was later sentenced to death.

As previously reported by Hengaw, Aida Heydarian, a 31-year-old employee of the Red Crescent Pharmacy in Sanandaj, was fatally stabbed at the couple’s home on July 16, 2024.

After the killing, Zarei attempted to take his own life with a knife at the scene. He was subsequently transferred to hospital for treatment before being arrested and taken into custody.

He was later sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) by the Kurdistan Province Criminal Court, a verdict that was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court.

The execution had not been announced by Iranian state media, including Judiciary-affiliated outlets.
