Farzad Sobhani executed at Urmia Central Prison

Iranian authorities executed Farzad Sobhani, a 21-year-old Kurdish prisoner from Naqadeh, at Urmia Central Prison, also known as Darya Prison. He had been sentenced to death for premeditated murder.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sobhani was executed at dawn on July 29, 2026, at Urmia Central Prison.

Sources familiar with the case said Sobhani had been transferred from Naqadeh Prison to the solitary confinement unit at Urmia Central Prison on July 27 in preparation for his execution.

Sobhani, a resident of the village of Gardeh Qeit in Naqadeh County, was arrested about three years ago, when he was 18 years old, on charges of premeditated murder. He was later sentenced to death under Iran’s qisas (retributive justice) laws.

Iranian state media and judicial authorities have not publicly announced the execution.
