Sina Sotoudeh sentenced to eight years in prison over January protests

Sina Sotoudeh, a 31-year-old resident of Ramsar who was detained during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Islamic Republic's judiciary to eight years in prison. He has recently been summoned to begin serving his sentence.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sotoudeh, the father of a five-year-old daughter, was convicted by the Shahsavar (Tonekabon) Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Fazeli, on the charge of "acting against national security."

Hengaw has learned that security agencies have pressured Sotoudeh to report to the Sentence Enforcement Office in Ramsar next week to begin serving his prison sentence.

Sotoudeh was arrested by Iranian security forces on January 10, 2026. After spending two and a half months in detention, he was released on temporary bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

According to an informed source, Sotoudeh was subjected to severe torture while in detention, suffering broken teeth, fractures to his arms and legs, serious rib injuries, trauma to his genital area, and internal bleeding.
