Kurdish prisoner Shorsh Sattarzadeh executed in Sanandaj Central Prison after 18 years of imprisonment

Iranian authorities have executed Shorsh Sattarzadeh, a Kurdish prisoner from Saqqez, after he spent 18 years in prison. He had previously been sentenced to death on a charge of premeditated murder.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution of Shorsh Sattarzadeh, a resident of Chapan Olya village in the Ziwiyeh district of Saqqez County, was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in Sanandaj Central Prison (Sine).

Sattarzadeh was arrested 18 years ago, in 2008, following a family dispute over the murder of his sister-in-law’s mother-in-law, identified by her first name, Khavar, in Saqqez. He was subsequently sentenced to qisas (retribution in kind) by the Iranian judiciary.

The execution of Shorsh Sattarzadeh has not been announced by Iranian domestic media or official sources affiliated with the judiciary.
