Reza Zanganeh sentenced to death over alleged cooperation with Mossad

Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court has sentenced Reza Zanganeh, a 27-year-old man from Malayer residing in Malard, Alborz Province, to death on charges of “cooperation with Mossad” and “waging war against God.” Iranian security forces arrested him in April 2026.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Judges Sabzevari and Narimani issued the death sentence against Zanganeh, originally from Kalilabad village in Malayer.

Zanganeh is currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. His case has been referred to Iran’s Supreme Court for appeal, with a 12-day deadline to challenge the verdict.

Zanganeh, who recently married, worked in Malard as a technician and mechanic specializing in foreign-made vehicles. People close to him say the allegation of cooperation with Mossad is based solely on his work repairing foreign vehicles and previous work-related travel abroad.

Iranian security forces arrested Zanganeh during a raid on his workplace on April 3, 2026, and subsequently transferred him to Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Informed sources told Hengaw that Zanganeh has remained at Ghezel Hesar Prison since his arrest, while security agencies have placed his family under intense pressure to remain silent and refrain from publicizing his case.
