Two kurdish political prisoners sentenced to long prison terms

Hengaw: Two kurdish political prisoners who are detained in Rajayi Shahr prison in Karaj and Urmia central prison were sentenced to 17 and 15 years imprisonment by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Arash Nasri, a kurdish political prisoner who is detained in Rajayi Shahr prison in Karaj was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by the branch 28 of the revolutionary court in Tehran. The trial was chaired by Judge Moqise. His court meeting was held on July 20th, 2020. He received his imprisonment sentence officially on August 5th, 2020.

According to the judgment Arash Nasri is accused of "being a member of the Khabat organization of Iran's Kurdistan" and has to spend six years in prison.

He was also sentenced to six years in prison for „illegal possession of arms“, to 18 months imprisonment for „crossing the borders illegally“ and to three years and a half more for „arms trade“.

Based on article 134 of the Islamic law, since the convicted prisoner has been sentenced to several prison terms in various cases, he must serve the longest sentence of six years (accusation: "being a member of the Khabat organization of Iran's Kurdistan" and „illegal possession of arms“).

Arash Nasri aged 35, is a kurdish citizen from Sanandaj and lives in Varamin. He was arrested by forces of the iranian secret service (Etlaat) on December 20, 2019 and has been jailed in Rajayi Shahr prison after his interrogation ended. He has been in the Autonomous region of Kurdistan for three years and was a member of the Khabat organization of Iran's Kurdistan for a while.

On the other hand, in mid July another political prisoner named "Hamid Abdi" from "Nanas" village near Urmia was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the third branch of the revolutionary court of Urmia, West Azerbaijan Province. The trial was chaired by judge Najafzadeh. He is being accused of "actions against the national security" by being a member of Kurdistan Free Life party (PJAK).

Hamid Abdi was arrested by forces of the secret service (Etlaat) last November and was transferred to the Urmia prison after two months. He was released on March after bringing in bail but was arrested again on April. He is now detained in the central prison of Urima.
