Hengaw : According to human rights organizations, women activists have experienced a very difficult situation in Iranian Kurdistan over the past year.
According to statistics recorded by Hengaw Statistics and Documentation Data Center, from March 2020 to March 2021, at least 33 Kurdish women activists were detained by Iranian security forces . The judiciary of the Islamic Republic has also sentenced 11 Kurdish women activists to imprisonment and flogging.
Detention of 33 Kurdish women civil activists:
During the past year, at least 33 Kurdish women activists have been detained by Iranian security forces in various cities in Iranian Kurdistan, most of them for political activities.
Reason for arrest:
Political activity: 15 cases equal to 45.5% of the total cases
Civic activity: 13 cases equivalent to 39.5% of the total case
Religious activists: 5 cases equal to 15% of the Total cases
Distribution by province:
Kurdistan Province (Sanandaj): 12 cases
West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia): 6 cases
Kermanshah province: 11 cases
Ilam province: 1 case
Lorestan Province: 1 case
Mazandaran province: 1 case
Kurdish women activists sentenced to almost 50 years in prison:
According to statistics recorded at Hangaw Human Rights Organization's Statistics and Data Documentation Center, From March 2020 to March 2021, at least 11 Kurdish women activists were sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to a total of 52 years and six months in prison and 30 lashes,
According to the report, 8 of these women were sentenced to prison on charges of political activity and collaborating with Kurdish opposition parties in the government, and 3 woman was charged with civil activities.
