Barzan Mohammadi, a former Kurdish political prisoner, gets tortured by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps(IRGC) officials and receives a new prison sentence

Hengaw: Barzan Mohammadi, a civil activist and former political prisoner from Sarvabad of Marivan district in Kurdistan province faced trial online from inside the prison two weeks after his arrest and sentenced to prison.

According to a report received by Hengaw Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, two weeks after his arrest, Barzan Mohammadi, a civil activist from Sarvabad, was sentenced by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Marivan, headed by Judge Roozbeh Behboodi, to a total of 22 months and 17 days in prison.

According to a source close to Mohammadi's family, Barzan Mohammadi was sentenced to 15 months and 1 day in prison for "insulting the Iranian supreme leader" and to 7 months and 16 days in prison for "propaganda against the regime." which according to the laws  15 months and 1 day of the sentence is applicable.

The source further stated that Barzan Mohammadi's trial was held online from inside Marivan Central Prison.

According to an audio file sent to the Hengaw, Barzan Mohammadi says: "I was tortured in the Sarvabad IRGC intelligence and I was asked to sign a pre-prepared letter of cooperation with the IRGC, which I refused to sign.".

Barzan Mohammadi was arrested by the IRGC intelligence forces in  Sarvabad on Monday, June 7, 2021, and is currently being held in Marivan Central Prison.

It is worth mentioning that Barzan Mohammadi was arrested by the Iranian security forces during the protests in Tehran on Friday, August 3, 2018, and the same year by he was sentenced by the second Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Salavati, to 6 years in prison on charges of "consensus and collusion to disrupt national security." and “Propaganda Against the regime ”. Later this sentence was reduced to 3 years and 6 months in prison in the court of appeals in March of 2019.

Barzan Mohammadi was finally released from Evin Prison in Tehran on Monday, June 7, 2020, after serving a nine-month sentence.
