Two Kurdish political prisoners from Maku called Osman Hajilu and Mehdi Arsen, whose arrest and sentence were not reported in the media, have recently been released from Maku Central Prison after serving half of their sentences.
According to the report received by Hengaw, Osman Hajilu from the village of Shurak located in the Buralan area of Maku was arrested by the Maku Intelligence forces in 2019 and later sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Khoy Revolutionary Court on the charge of "collaboration with the Kurdistan Workers' Party".
Also, Mehdi Arsen from Zalke village of Maku was arrested by the security forces in 2020 and was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Khoy Revolutionary Court on the charge of "collaboration with the Kurdistan Workers' Party". This sentence was later reduced to 3 years and 9 months of imprisonment after satisfaction with the judge's decision.
It should be noted that the news of the arrest and sentencing of the two Kurdish citizens has not been reported in the media yet, and Hengaw is the first source to report this news.
In late March, Hengaw Human Rights Organization published a report about 11 Kurdish political prisoners who were released from Maku Prison. The news of the 11 prisoners was published for the first time by Hengaw.
