Prastu Shahbazi, an 18-year-old citizen of Dehgolan City and a victim of child marriage, was brutally murdered by her husband.
Hengaw Organization was informed that on May 29, 2023, 18-year-old Prastu Shahbazi, who was also the mother of an 18-month-old kid, was brutally stabbed to death before being mercilessly hanged by her husband, 29-year-old Payam Sharifi.
Prastu Shahbazi was forced to marry Payam Sharif, who was addicted to drugs, six years ago, when she was only 12 years old.
After her parents divorced, Prastu Shahbazi was coerced by her stepfather to marry Payam when she was just 12 years old.
While strongly condemning such barbaric acts, Hengaw considers the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to be the main founder of such violence against women.
In this regard, Faraz Firouzi, a lawyer and legal advisor of the Hengaw Organization, believes that the Islamic Republic intrudes into the private lives and fundamental liberties of people, especially women, and robs them of their vital rights. As the people, especially women and children, need the government’s support, the Iranian government does nothing in this regard and limits it to the people’s private lives.
"Thus, by creating exclusive jurisdictions under titles such as "honor" and considering this as a decision-making right of the father, brother, or husband, such crimes against women take place," said Mr. Firouzi.
