Ilam Central Prison; Hunger strike of four arrested protesters from Sarableh

Mehrdad Qaisarbaigi, Ayoub Geravand, Younes Geravand, and Navid Mohammadnejad—four citizens from Sarableh city in Ilam province—have commenced a hunger strike to protest the handling of their case at the Central Prison of Ilam.
 

According to the reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights,Since Sunday, July 23, 2023, four detained citizens from Sarableh city have commenced a hunger strike at Ilam Central Prison. The individuals involved are Mehrdad Qaisarbaigi, aged 34 and married; Ayoub Geravand, aged 36 and married; Younes Geravand; and Navid Mohammadnejad, a 26-year-old Wushu martial arts instructor.

The four citizens, who have been incarcerated for 43 days since their arrest, have initiated a hunger strike to protest the delay and lack of progress in handling their case by the Sarbaleh Prosecutor's Office.

Mehrdad Qaisarbaigi, Ayoub Geravand, Younes Geravand, and Navid Mohammadnejad were apprehended by Iranian government forces in Sarableh city on Sunday, June 11 of this year.

Notably, Mehrdad Qaisarbaigi and Ayoub Geravand had been previously arrested by Iranian government forces in Sarableh city during the "Jin, Jiayn, Azadî" movement in November 2022.
