Farhad Nawaii, a 16-year-old Kurdish student from Mahabad City, was released from Urmia Correctional Center after 264 days of detention. He was arrested during the recent nationwide protests (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî movement) and later sentenced to two years of imprisonment.
 

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, Farhad Nawaii, a student from the village of "Tarshkan" in Mahabad, was released from Urmia Correctional Center after 8 months and 21 days of detention.
 

In July 2023, Farhad Navaei was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in a correctional center by the Special Criminal Court for Juveniles of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) based in Mahabad, on the charge of "Assembly and collusion to commit crimes against the internal security of the country".
 

This is even though before this, Mizan news agency, the Iranian judiciary’s media claimed that the court had acquitted Farhad Nawaii regarding "Moharebeh" (War against God).
 

Previously, the family of this Kurdish teenager was unable to secure the bail of 5 billion tomans set by the court for the temporary release of their child. During his detention, he was denied the right to access a designated lawyer.

 
Farhad Nawaii was arrested by Iranian government forces on Friday, November 18, 2022, during the protests in Mahabad. 
During his detention, he was tortured and forced to confess himself.
