Farhad Newaii, aged 16, has been under detention for a period of seven months and 23 days. The verdict was issued by the Special Juvenile Criminal Court in Urmia, West Azerbaijan(Urmia) Province, in relation to his arrest during the Jin, Jian, Azay Movement.
 

According to information obtained by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Farhad Newaii, a student from the village of "Trashkan" in Mahabad, was recently convicted by the Special Juvenile Criminal Court in Urmia, West Azerbaijan Province. The charges against him include "participation in and organization of plotting against national security."

Consequently, he has been sentenced to two years of disciplinary imprisonment at the correctional and Education Center in Mahabad.
 

The official media outlet of the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, “MIZAN” News Agency, has reported that Farhad Newaii has been acquitted for the charges of "insurrection" by the court.
 

Newaii’s arrest took place on Friday, November 18, 2022, during the widespread protests in Mahabad, and he is currently being held at the Urmia correctional and Education Center. It is important to note that he has been subjected to torture during his detention and has been forced to make coerced confessions.
 

According to documented statistics at the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, the Jin, Jian, Azadi Revolution has resulted in the detention of more than 400 students under the age of 18 in various Kurdish cities by government authorities. As of now, Hengaw has verified the identities of 201 of these detained individuals.
