Hasel Azarmian, a religious activist from Piranshahr who had been previously detained for six months during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement by security institutions, has been arrested and transferred to prison to serve a 7-year sentence.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organisation for Human Rights, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, Hasel Azarmian, a 28-year-old father of two, was arrested subsequent to a summons to the court of execution of judgements in Piranshahr. He has since been transferred to Urmia Prison to serve a seven-year prison term.
According to reliable sources, Hasel Azarmian received a seven-year prison sentence during the spring of this year from the 1st Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Urmia.
The news of Hasel Azarmian's arrest and the subsequent execution of his sentence was initially reported by Hengaw. Prior to this, he had endured a six-month period of imprisonment in media silence.
In December 2022, amid the popular protests in Piranshahr,Hasel Azarmian was apprehended by Iranian government forces. Subsequently, in May of the present year, he was granted release from Urmia prison upon posting a bail of two billion tomans, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
