Execution of Two Inmates at Shiraz Central Prison Increases Total to Five

The toll of executed prisoners at Shiraz Central Prison rose to five with the recent confirmation of the identities of two more individuals, Afshin Joshni and Taher Arefi. Prior to this, the identities of three other prisoners, Behruz Dinarbar, Ahmad Mohammadi, and Vahid Salmi, had been established.

According to a report obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Sunday, November 12, 2023, the death sentences of 30-year-old Taher Arefi and Afshin Joshni were carried out in Shiraz Central Prison.

These two individuals were previously arrested on charges related to drug crimes and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Simultaneously, the death sentence of Ahmad Mohammadi, a 45-year-old prisoner from Birjand, South Khorasan, was executed in Shiraz Central Prison. Arrested five years ago on similar charges, he had been sentenced to death.

Furthermore, on the same day, the death sentences of Vahid Salmi, a 35-year-old from the city of Sadara, Fars province, and a Baloch prisoner identified as Behruz Dinarber, 50 years old and from the city of Kohnuj, Kerman province, were executed in Shiraz Central Prison. These two individuals had been previously arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to drug crimes.
