In a recent judicial development in Sanandaj-Kurdistan, Seywan Ebrahimi a Kurdish language lecturer and a member of the board of directors of the cultural-social association "Nojin," has been sentenced to a total of 11 years of imprisonment by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to reports received by the  Hengaw organization for Human Rights, Seywan Ebrahimi, a Kurdish language teacher, was recently sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, presided by chief Judge Karami. He received a 10-year prison sentence on charges of "forming groups with the intent to disrupt national security" and an additional one-year sentence on charges of "propaganda against the government," resulting in a cumulative 11-year term of imprisonment.

Seywan Ebrahimi, in another case in August 2023, was sentenced by Branch 106 of the Criminal Court in Sanandaj to one year of punitive imprisonment, exile, and flogging of 40 lashes on charges of "disrupting public order." On December 3rd, his imprisonment and flogging sentences were confirmed in the appellate court, while his exile sentence to Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah was overturned.

On his social media, Seywan Ebrahimi conveying the reasons for his sentences, including 12 years imprisonment, "responsibility in the Nojin association and its activities," "support for the resistance of his spouse, Zara Mohammadi," "posting pictures of martyrs on social networks," and also, "association with a channel called KurdTV," claiming unawareness of the existence of such a channel.

Mr. Ebrahimi, a  board member of the “Nojin” cultural and social association was detained on Wednesday the 18th of January 2023, by Iranian security forces. He was eventually released on bail, on Monday, February 14th,  from Sanandaj Prison until the conclusion of the legal proceedings.

He was also arrested previously on January 3rd, 2023 while attending the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj to follow up on the case of his spouse, Zehra Mohammadi, another Kurdish language lecturer in prison at the time. He was released on bail on January 5th, after depositing the required bail.
