Piranshahr; Four Kurdish clerics sentenced to eleven years in prison

Four clerics from Piranshahr Sharif Mahmoodpour, Seyed Suleiman Ahmadi, Seyed Jamaluddin Vaji, and Younes Nokhah were sentenced to 11 years in prison by Iran’s special clergy court. These four clerics were arrested last year in connection with the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Sharif Mahmoodpour and Seyyed Jamaluddin Vazhi, the imams of the village of "Passen" in Piranshahr, were each sentenced to two years in prison, Seyed Suleiman Ahmadi, the Imam of Salahuddin Ayubi School of Religious Sciences in Piranshahr was sentenced to four years in prison, and Yunus Nokhah who is also one of the teachers of Salahuddin Ayoubi School of Religious Sciences, was sentenced to three years in prison.

These clerics have been sentenced to prison by Iran’s Special Clergy Court in Urmia on charges of "signing the statement of Kurdistan clerics in support of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi, Movement, and participation in protests", "action against national security" and "confounding the public opinion".

Seyed Suleiman Ahmadi and Yunus Nokhah were arrested on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, and following that month they were temporarily released on bail until the end of the proceedings.

Also, Seyyed Jamaluddin Vaji and teacher Sharif Mahmoodpour were arrested on the evening of Monday, January 23, 2023, and were temporarily released respectively on February 8 and 12 with bail of 500 million until the end of the proceedings.
