Two-Year Prison Sentence for Behbahan Resident Zainab Khaniabpour Over Mandatory Hijab Protest

Zainab Khaniabpour, a resident of Behbahan who was detained during the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement, has been handed a two-year prison sentence by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran for protesting against the mandatory hijab. Earlier, she received a three-month-and-one-day sentence for the first part of her case.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Zainab (Bahar) Khaniabpour from Behbahan city in Khuzestan province recently received a two-year prison sentence from Branch 104 of Behbahan 2 Criminal Court.
Sajad Chatersafid, Zainab Khaniabpour's lawyer, shared the news on his personal page: "My client was sentenced to 2 years in prison by the judge of Branch 104 of Behbahan 2 Criminal Court for the charge of 'publishing images without hijab in cyberspace.'"
On December 4 of the previous year, Zainab Khaniabpour was previously sentenced to three months and one day in prison by the Behbahan Revolutionary Court on the charge of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran" for another part of her case.
Her clothing store in Behbahan was sealed on December 5, 2022, due to her participation in the strikes of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi movement.
Zainab Khaniabpour was arrested on December 21, 2022, while visiting Behbahan Court to inquire about the status of her business. She was subsequently released on bail from Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz on Tuesday, December 27, 2023, pending the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
