Mehrab Abdullahzadeh, a Kurdish man from Urmia, who was arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and imprisoned in Urmia Central Prison, has recently been sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of “armed rebellion.”

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the summer of 2024, Mehrab Abdullahzadeh was sentenced to death by the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Urmia on charges of “armed rebellion."

The death sentence was officially conveyed to him in late September this year while he was in Urmia Central Prison.

Mehrab Abdullahzadeh was abducted by security forces in the fall of 2022 during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement and transferred to a security detention center in Urmia. After enduring months of torture and interrogation, he was transferred to Urmia Central Prison and approximately two weeks ago was moved to the political ward of the prison.
