Reza Khandan was arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and transferred to an undisclosed location. He is the husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent lawyer and former political prisoner.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, Reza Khandan was detained by security forces at his residence.

Mehraveh Khandan, Mr. Khandan’s daughter, stated in a post that her father was arrested at home this morning.

It is worth noting that Reza Khandan, along with Farhad Meysami, a physician and civil activist, was sentenced to six years in prison in February 2019. However, the implementation of the sentence was postponed, and it is likely that his arrest is related to this case.

Reza Khandan had been sentenced by the judiciary to five years in prison for "assembly and collusion against security" and one year for "propaganda against the state," amounting to a total of six years of imprisonment.
