Baha’i woman Saba Sefidi arrested in Tehran to serve prison sentence

Iranian security forces arrested Saba Sefidi, a Baha’i woman living in Tehran, outside her home and transferred her to Qarchak Prison in Varamin to begin serving a three-year-and-five-month prison sentence.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, security forces arrested Sefidi on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Informed sources said the arrest took place despite a two-month legal period recently granted to Sefidi to report to the prosecutor’s office. Security forces detained her outside her home, transferred her to the Jannatabad Prosecutor’s Office, and subsequently sent her directly to Qarchak Prison in Varamin to serve her sentence.

Sefidi was previously arrested in January 2022 and held for 45 days before being temporarily released on bail.

Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ali Mazloum, later sentenced her to a total of four years and five months in prison on charges of “membership in groups opposed to the state” and “propaganda against the state.”

On appeal, Sefidi was acquitted of the “propaganda against the state” charge, reducing her sentence to three years and five months in prison.
