Executions in Ghezel Hesar Prison rise to 6
Hengaw: Thursday, January 2, 2025
The number of executions carried out yesterday in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj has risen to six, following the identification of three additional prisoners: Ali Vahdani, Hassan Vahdani, and Shahram Mahdavi. All three were Kurds from Bojnourd and Kermanshah. Hengaw had previously reported the executions of three other prisoners, including an Afghan national.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the death sentences of these three Kurdish prisoners were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison, located in Alborz Province.
Ali Vahdani, aged 43, and his cousin, Hassan Vahdani, aged 37, were both from Bojnourd in North Khorasan Province. They had been arrested six years ago in connection with a joint case and sentenced to death for premeditated murder by Iran’s criminal court. Shahram Mahdavi, aged 28, from Kermanshah, was arrested three years ago on similar charges and subsequently sentenced to death.
Hengaw had earlier reported the execution of three other prisoners in the same prison on the same day. These included Arshia, a 22-year-old detainee, Amin, an Afghan national, and a third prisoner whose identity remains unknown.
While the executions of Arshia, Amin, and the unidentified prisoner were covered by state media, the executions of Ali Vahdani, Hassan Vahdani, and Shahram Mahdavi have not been officially announced by government-affiliated outlets as of the time of this report.
