Turkey: Imminent risk of deportation for Kurdish human rights activist, Hossein Hosseini and his family to Iran
Hengaw: Sunday, January 5, 2025
Hossein Hosseini, a Kurdish cultural, civil, and political activist from Mariwan, along with his wife Nasrin Khoshnavazian and their two children, is facing a dire situation in Turkey and is at serious risk of deportation to Iran.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Hosseini, Khoshnavazian, and their 10- and 13-year-old children have been temporarily relocated under restrictive and challenging conditions to the city of Denizli. However, Denizli’s immigration office has opposed their residence in the city, leaving the family in a state of uncertainty.
Hosseini stated that on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, following nearly two months of detention at the “Mugla” camp, he and his family were released and transferred to Denizli.
He added that Turkey’s immigration office has required his family to report to the office weekly, while their deportation case remains open and under review.
The family was originally detained by the Bodrum Coast Guard on Thursday, November 7, 2024, for what was described as a “violation of the law.” They were subsequently transferred to the Mugla detention center pending deportation.
It is noteworthy that during their detention, Nasrin Khoshnavazian’s gastrointestinal condition worsened due to irregular access to necessary medication.
Hossein Hosseini fled Iran in 2019 due to pressure from the Iranian security agencies. Initially, he sought refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan but later attempted to reach Europe through Turkey. During the journey, he and his family were arrested.
