Sirwan Fakhri, a Kurdish political activist from Saqqez, is facing the serious risk of deportation and extradition from Turkey to Iran after being arrested by Turkish security forces. He had previously received an order to leave the country.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, 38-year-old Sirwan Fakhri from Saqqez was arrested by Turkish police. Due to the deportation order issued against him by Turkish authorities, Fakhri is now at serious risk of being sent back to Iran.

A reliable source told Hengaw that Sirwan Fakhri was arrested by police near the city of Bitlis in Turkey. Recently, due to pressure from security agencies and security agreements between Iran and the central government of Iraq, Fakhri was forced to leave the city of Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan and return to Turkey.

It is worth mentioning that Sirwan Fakhri had previously filed an asylum case in Turkey. After his asylum request was rejected and a deportation order was issued, he was compelled to relocate to Iraqi Kurdistan.

In an audio message, Sirwan Fakhri confirmed his arrest by Turkish police and called on human rights organizations to be his voice, stating that if he is extradited to Iran, he will face torture and harsh sentences.
