Two Gilak writers and civil activists from Rasht, Nina Golestani and Rozita Rajai, have been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to one year in prison each.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht convicted both women on charges of “propaganda against the state through social media,” handing down a one-year prison sentence for each.
Golestani was arrested on March 12, 2025, and Rajai on July 19, 2025. Both were transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht following their arrests.
The two women had previously been detained in November 2023 and later sentenced to four years and one month in prison each on charges of “assembly and collusion” and “propaganda against the state.”
Hengaw has also learned that Golestani and Rajai face a separate joint case on charges including “spreading false information,” “appearing in public without hijab,” “disclosing preliminary investigations of the prosecutor’s office,” and “publishing photos, images, and content contrary to public decency,” which is still pending trial.
