Photographer Negin Kiani sentenced to one year in prison in Babol

Negin Kiani, a photographer and photography instructor based in Babol, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran over her use of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” hashtag.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Babol Revolutionary Court sentenced Kiani to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

Her trial was held before the same court on Monday, June 15, 2026.

The case against Kiani cited her use of the hashtags “No to Executions” and “Woman, Life, Freedom,” as well as expressions of solidarity with political prisoners on social media.
