The Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced Nazila Maroufian, a journalist from Saqqez who was detained by government agents in Tehran, to two years in prison, as well as a fine of 15 million tomans and a five-year travel ban.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that Nazila Maroufian, an Allameh Tabataba'i University student and journalist, announced her conviction in a tweet, saying: "According to the decision of Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Afshari, I was sentenced to two years in prison, 15 million tomans in fine, and a 5-year travel ban."

"Propaganda activities against the regime" and "spreading lies to upset the public conscience through the release of an interview with Mahsa Amini's father" are the accusations leveled against this Kurdish journalist.

On Wednesday, January 4, 2023, Nazila Maroufian was unconscious due to an anxiety attack and was transferred from the court to the hospital during the hearing of the charges. It is said that after being transferred to the hospital, this journalist was returned to prison without undergoing the full course of treatment.

Before her arrest, Nazila Maroufian worked as a reporter for the Ruydad 24 news outlet, and after publishing an interview with Jina Amini's father, she was arrested by the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic in Tehran. This journalist, who used to work in Dideban-e Iran media, was arrested in Tehran on Sunday night, October 30, 2022, and was later transferred to Ward 209 of Evin prison.
