Four Afghan nationals, including a child, killed by Iranian forces during Mashhad protests

At least four Afghan nationals, including a 16-year-old child, were shot and killed by Iranian government forces during recent protests in Mashhad.
The victims have been identified as Amirhossein Moradi, 16; Yazdan Tamanna, 19; Alireza Behboudi, 20; and Kiarash Karimdadi, 22.
According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the killings occurred on the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2026, when government forces opened fire in multiple locations across Mashhad.
Sources said Amirhossein Moradi was shot and killed near his home in the Nowdeh neighborhood, while Alireza Behboudi and Kiarash Karimdadi were killed on Vakilabad Boulevard, and Yazdan Tamanna was fatally shot outside the Imamiyeh police station.
Families of the victims are being pressured by security agencies to remain silent about the circumstances of the killings. After repeated efforts, they were eventually allowed to retrieve the bodies and bury their loved ones under conditions of intimidation and coercion.
