In the first two months of 2023, at least 102 prisoners have been executed in Iranian prisons, of whom 33% of the total executions that have been carried out in Iran during this period were Kurds. Also, five political prisoners were executed.
Based on the statistics registered in the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, of the total of 102 prisoners who were executed in Iranian prisons, Hengaw could verify the identities of 90 of them. Hengaw will continue its investigation to confirm the identities of the other 12.
According to this report, the Kurds have the highest number of executed prisoners with 33 cases, followed by Baluchs with 15 cases. In other words, nearly half of the total executions in Iran were of Kurdish and Baluch citizens.
Out of 102 executed prisoners, five political prisoners were hanged by Iranian authorities: two Kurdish prisoners, one Arab, one Gilak, and one Iranian-British citizen.
The prisons in the province of Alborz had the highest number of executions, at 27. The prisons in the West Azerbaijan province had nine execution cases, Kerman had seven cases, and Kermanshan had six cases.
