Hengaw: According to human rights organization statistics, in the past year, female activists have experienced a very difficult situation in Kurdistan.
Based on the statistics registered at the Hengaw Statistics and Documents Center, from March 2022 to March 2023, at least 245 female Kurdish activists have been arrested by Iran's government institutions. Also, the judicial system of the Islamic Republic has issued imprisonment and death sentences for 30 Kurdish female activists.
Also, in this period, at least 25 women have been killed in different cities of Kurdistan, five of which were honor killings.
The arrest of 245 female Kurdish civil activists:
In the past year, at least 245 female Kurdish activists have been arrested in different cities of Kurdistan and other cities of Iran by the government institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran, most of them were due to political activities, and with the registration of 137 cases, the highest number of women's arrests has been recorded in Kurdistan province (Sanandaj).
Reasons for arrest:
Political activity: 21 cases equal 8.5% of the total cases
Civic activity: 3 cases equal 1.5% of the total cases
Jina uprising: 221 cases equal 90% of the total cases

West Azarbaijan province (Urmia): 39 cases
Kermanshah province: 25 cases
Ilam province: 24 cases
Other cities of Iran: 20 cases
Female activists in Kurdistan sentenced to total of 77 years in prison
From March 2022 to March 2023, based on the statistics registered at the Statistics and Documents Center of the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, at least 20 female Kurdish activists were sentenced to 77 years and 2 months in prison by the Iranian judicial system on charges of political activity, participation in the Jina uprising, and civil activity. Two LGBTQ activists have also been sentenced to death.
It is worth mentioning that 14 of the women who were sentenced to prison by the judicial system were arrested in the Jina Revolution.
Registration of 25 cases of murder of women
According to Hengaw statistics, from March 8, 2022, to March 8, 2023, at least 25 women were killed in different cities of Kurdistan, 5 of which were honor killings.
According to the report, 8 cases of femicide have been registered in Kermanshah province, 7 cases in Kurdistan province, 5 cases in Ilam province, and 5 cases in West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province.
Also, 10 of these women were killed by their husbands, 7 by their ex-husbands, 4 by their brothers, and 2 by their colleagues, and the killers of two were unknown.
In the past year, five cases of honor killings of women have been recorded. 15 cases were due to family disputes and 5 cases were unknown.
