Iran sentences mother and son from Yazd to more than 14 years in prison

Iran’s judiciary has sentenced Masoumeh Aberi, 63, and her son, Amin Ahmadi, 41, both from Yazd, to a combined 14 years, six months, and one day in prison following months of detention and denial of fundamental legal rights.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Aberi and Ahmadi were arrested in March 2026 and subsequently sentenced by the Iranian judiciary.

Under the ruling issued by the Yazd Revolutionary Court, Aberi was sentenced to two years in prison, while Ahmadi received a sentence of 12 years, six months, and one day.

Hengaw sources said security forces raided the family home on March 4, 2026, without presenting a warrant, searched the property, and arrested the mother and son before transferring them to Yazd Central Prison. For three weeks, they were denied phone calls, family visits, access to a lawyer, and even information about each other’s condition.

In late July 2026, after nearly five months in detention, Aberi, who has multiple underlying health conditions, was granted medical leave and hospitalized following a deterioration in her health.

Ahmadi, an agricultural and irrigation systems engineer, remains detained at Yazd Central Prison after more than six months and is in poor physical and psychological condition. Despite a doctor’s recommendation that he urgently receive specialized treatment, prison authorities have refused to transfer him to an outside medical facility and have kept him waiting for an examination by the Legal Medicine Organization.

Throughout the judicial proceedings, Ahmadi has rejected all security-related charges against him, maintaining that the case was fabricated as a result of pressure from security agencies.
