Student Najmeh Amini sentenced to over 12 years in prison

The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Najmeh Amini, a student currently held at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, to 12 years, six months, and one day in prison. Security forces had previously arrested her using severe violence.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court recently sentenced Amini to 12 years, six months, and one day in prison on the charge of “operational action against national security.”

Security forces arrested Amini on January 31, 2026, during searches in the Ferdowsi Bazaar area of Mashhad, beating her and using severe violence during the arrest before transferring her to the security ward of Vakilabad Prison.

Amini was held in solitary confinement in the prison’s security ward for approximately three months, where she was subjected to pressure to extract forced confessions. She is currently held in the ward known as “Aramesh” at Vakilabad Prison.

Hengaw previously reported that Amini had faced several serious charges, including “waging war against God” (moharebeh), “collaboration with Israel,” “insulting the Supreme Leader,” “insulting the Prophet” (sabb al-nabi), and “confrontation with a government officer.”
