With the execution of at least 10 prisoners in the cities of Kerman, Sanandaj, Urmia, Gorgan, and Jiroft and one prisoner in public in the city of Maragheh, the number of prisoners who have been executed in Iranian prisons in the past week has reached 15.
According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, 25 May 2023, at least 3 prisoners named Qader Bakhsh Dahani, 39, from Zahedan, and Abdul Rasul Jamshidi, 55, from Fars province, were executed for drug-related charges. Also, a prisoner from Kerman who was sentenced to death for premeditated murder has been executed whose identity is being investigated by Hengaw.
In the Central Prison of Gorgan, the capital of Golestan province, the death sentences of two prisoners who were previously sentenced to death for premeditated murder have been carried out. The identity of one of these two prisoners, Shaban Yousefi, and a person with the surname "Bezi" have been confirmed.
A prisoner from Kermanshah named Saeed Mohammadi Far, who was previously sentenced to death for premeditated murder, was also executed today in the central prison of Sanandaj.
At the same time, the death sentence of a prisoner named Amir Mehdi, who was sentenced to death on charges of corruption on earth, was carried out in one of the streets of Maragheh city while several people, including women and children, were watching.
On the other hand, the death sentence of a prisoner named Ali Piri, 40 years old, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison. He was arrested three years ago on charges of premeditated murder and later sentenced to death by the Iranian Judiciary.
Also, on this day at Jiroft prison, the death sentences of two Baloch prisoners who were sentenced to death for drug-related charges were carried out. The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as Mehdi Salari from Jiroft and Mohammad Chaina (Golbache), 30 years old, from Zahedan.
At dawn on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the death sentences of two prisoners named Majid Jafari and Ali Tabib were carried out in Dastgard prison in Isfahan. These two prisoners were previously sentenced to death for drug-related charges.
On the same day, the death sentence of Saeed Mohammadi from Kermanshah was carried out after 12 years of imprisonment in the central prison of this city. Also, a man who was previously sentenced to death for drug-related charges and the murder of a police officer was executed in the Central Prison of Bandar Abbas.
While expressing concern over the growing wave of death sentences, Hengaw calls on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene and prevent the execution of more citizens in Iran.
